Historically a medicinal herb, horseradish is now mainly used for flavouring...especially associated with roast beef.
It grows to 60-90cm tall, and is known to spread, so container planting could be useful, or isolate it. As the roots are used in cooking, you do destroy the plant itself, but it does spread if you leave at least one root and divide it (in the Spring).
It is fully hardy so does not need any special attention apart from a little feed over the summer, and can survive all but the driest of soils.
If you are lucky you may get little white flowers in the spring.
