Mint varieties are particularly suited for growing in containers because they love to grow and would need control in an open garden space! Mint Apple is a wonderful variety and as its name suggests a really fresh minty apple flavour to dishes! You can even put a bunch on your window sill to deter flies as well as filling the air with the beautiful scent! Attractive mauve flowers in Summer and can grow up to 60cm – 1m ( 2-3ft) if allowed!
Whilst a deterrent for flies Apple Mint attracts bees and butterflies.
Use mint regularly and cut the stems of 2.5 cm length as soon as the plant is large enough. A popular way of using mint is to strip the leaves from the stem you remove and chop finely for sauces or use the whole leaves to add to vegetables as they cook . They also look attractive as garnishes and in cold drinks.
