The Story of Urban
Allotments!
Founded in 2008 we are still a
relatively new company, but with every season our confidence and offering
grows. Started as a family business, we’ve grown into a flourishing small
enterprise building the team slowly but surely with people who believe in our
values as strongly as we do.
We believe that everyone and
anyone can grow their own in whatever space they have available without compromising their outdoor living space.
Where did the idea come
from?
Rachael decided she'd like an
allotment a few summers ago. An allotment she got (well, a series of
raised beds because she’s not too into digging!) complete with little baby
vegetables and herb plugs from a nursery run by friends.
She slowly but surely became
totally hooked on the whole idea of growing your own, opening the kitchen doors
to check out dinner rather than the fridge quickly becoming part of her evening
ritual.
Talking with work colleagues about
her newly found passion for growing, Rachael found herself trying to find
solutions to their desire to follow suit when hindered by their lack of garden
space, an ability to get to a garden centre or when they did get to one not
finding anything they liked.
And so was born the idea of growing
crops in stylish yet functional pots that would instantly add character and
design to patios, balconies, porches. Increasingly we have spread our range
into larger gardens with raised beds and fruit trees.
Rachael works full time with Urban
Allotments now along with trusted team members down in Sussex. The original
allotment has just been moved to create a fabulous raised bed kitchen garden
surrounding the new office in a converted stable block. Noel is still in
Shropshire where we have poly-tunnels and warehousing.
We regularly attend conferences
and exhibitions and even travelling abroad finding new and unusual ranges to
offer you.
You’ll see more of this
year and in the future. We’ve kept Urban Allotments a little underwraps but now
we are ready to spread the word.
